Terms of Service

Last updated: April 2026

1. About these terms

These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your use of The Hire Site platform operated by The Hire Site Ltd (“we”, “us”), a company registered in England and Wales.

By creating an account or making a booking, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the platform.

2. The platform

The Hire Site is a marketplace that connects people who want to hire equipment, vehicles, services or trade skills (“Hirers”) with people who offer them (“Listers”). We are not a party to the hire agreement itself — that agreement is between Hirer and Lister directly.

We do not own, inspect, or guarantee any listed items or services. Use the platform at your own reasonable judgement.

3. Accounts

You must be at least 18 years old to create an account. You are responsible for keeping your login credentials secure. Notify us immediately at support@thehiresite.co.uk if you suspect unauthorised access.

You must provide accurate information when registering. Impersonation, false credentials or misleading listings will result in immediate account suspension.

4. Listings

Listers are responsible for the accuracy of their listings. You must own or have the legal right to hire out anything you list. Items must be in the condition described and safe for use.

You must not list:

  • Stolen or illegally obtained items
  • Items that require regulatory approval you do not hold
  • Dangerous goods, weapons, or controlled substances
  • Services requiring qualifications you do not have (e.g. gas work without Gas Safe registration)

We reserve the right to remove any listing that violates these Terms without notice.

5. Bookings and payments

When a booking is confirmed, a legally binding hire agreement is formed between Hirer and Lister. The Hire Site facilitates payment but is not a party to this agreement.

Payment is held securely via Stripe until the hire period begins, at which point it is released to the Lister. Our commission of 12% is deducted automatically.

Deposits (where set by the Lister) are held and automatically returned at the end of the hire period, subject to no damage claims being raised.

6. Cancellations

Cancellation policies are set per listing. Hirers should review these before booking. Where no policy is stated, our default applies: cancellations more than 48 hours before the hire start receive a full refund; within 48 hours, the first day's fee is non-refundable.

If a Lister cancels a confirmed booking, the Hirer receives a full refund and the Lister's rating may be affected.

7. Disputes

If something goes wrong — damage, no-show, item not as described — contact our support team within 48 hours of the hire end date at disputes@thehiresite.co.uk.

We will review the case fairly and may withhold payment release pending investigation. Our decision is final where both parties cannot agree. This does not affect your statutory rights.

8. Insurance and liability

Listers are strongly advised to hold public liability insurance covering hire use. Tradespeople are required to hold insurance to display the “Insured” badge.

The Hire Site Ltd is not liable for loss, damage or injury arising from hire agreements made through the platform. Our maximum liability in any circumstances is limited to the value of the relevant booking fee paid to us.

9. Reviews

Reviews must be honest, based on genuine experience, and not defamatory. We reserve the right to remove reviews that breach these standards. You may not incentivise positive reviews or threaten negative ones.

10. Prohibited conduct

You must not:

  • Attempt to circumvent platform payments (taking bookings off-platform to avoid commission)
  • Harass, threaten or abuse other users
  • Use the platform for illegal purposes
  • Scrape, copy or reproduce platform content without permission
  • Post false reviews or manipulate the rating system

Violations may result in account suspension or permanent ban, and may be reported to relevant authorities.

11. Intellectual property

The Hire Site name, logo, and platform design are owned by The Hire Site Ltd. You may not reproduce or use them without written permission.

By uploading photos or content to the platform, you grant us a non-exclusive licence to display them within the platform for the purpose of operating the service.

12. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.

13. Changes to these terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. We'll notify you of material changes via email or platform notice. Continued use constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.
